Drawbacks and Considerations
High annual fee
At $595, some may find this unaffordable especially compared to travel cards that charge lower fees.
Low ongoing rewards rate
The ongoing 1x miles on most purchases can be disappointing compared to cards with enhanced rewards categories.
Hard-to-maximize statement credits
Restrictions exist on how and when you can use statement credits for services like Avis or Budget car rentals and Grubhub.
Lack of flexibility
If you fly with multiple airlines, a general travel card might be more appropriate than a specific airline card.
How To Decide If It's Right For You
Frequent flyers on American Airlines should consider this card primarily for the Admirals Club airport lounge access. However, for those who travel less frequently or not primarily with American Airlines, a general travel card may be a better fit.
